TMUA Test Centres: Where You Sit It & How to Choose

"Where do you actually sit the TMUA?" is one of the most common questions from first-time applicants, and the answer surprises people who are used to school-hall exams: there is no single national venue and your school is probably not running it either. You choose a professional test centre yourself when you book, and that choice, which centre, which day, which time, is entirely yours to make. Made well, it removes a whole category of test-day stress before it can touch your score. This guide walks through how the system works and how to choose well.

How TMUA delivery works

The TMUA is run by UAT-UK and delivered on screen through Pearson VUE, a global network of computer-based test centres used for many professional and admissions exams. In practice that means three things:

• You book it yourself. You create an account with UAT-UK, register for the TMUA, and book your seat online. Schools do not enter you, and there is no paper form.
• You choose the centre. During booking you search for test centres, see which ones have availability, and pick the one that suits you. Most candidates find somewhere reasonably local, because the network covers cities and large towns across the UK and worldwide.
• You choose the slot. The October 2026 test runs across a window of 12 to 16 October 2026, not a single fixed morning. You pick a specific date and start time inside that window, and once confirmed it is fixed.

The fee is paid at booking: £78 if your centre is in the UK or the Republic of Ireland, £133 anywhere else in the world. Note that the price follows where you sit, not your nationality. How to find your nearest test centre

There are two ways to see which centres are near you, and they work together.

The first is Pearson VUE's own centre locator on pearsonvue.com. The flow is the same as for any test they deliver: select the test programme, enter your postcode, city or country, and it lists centres near that location with addresses. This is useful for early reconnaissance, before booking opens or before you are ready to commit, because it tells you roughly how far you would have to travel.

The second, and the one that actually matters, is the booking flow inside your UAT-UK account. When you book, you search by location and see not just which centres exist but which ones have available slots for your dates. A centre existing near you does not guarantee it has seats left in the window you want, so the locator answers "what is near me?" while the booking search answers the real question, "what can I actually book?".

A practical way to run this: check the locator early so you know your realistic options, then the moment you are ready to book, search availability in your account and take the best combination of distance and slot rather than holding out for a perfect one.

How to choose between centres

If you live near one centre, the choice makes itself. If you have several within reach, weigh these factors, roughly in this order:

None of these factors is worth agonising over for long. The room, the equipment and the rules are standardised across the network, so the test itself is the same everywhere; you are optimising for a calm journey and a time of day that suits you, nothing more.

What a test centre is actually like

Briefly, so you know what you are choosing between: a Pearson VUE centre is a quiet room of numbered desks with PCs, shared with people sitting completely different exams. On arrival your photo ID is checked against your booking, your photo is taken, and your belongings are stored outside the testing room. You work on screen, with an erasable noteboard provided for rough working, and your start time is your own booked slot rather than a class moving together.

Two things from that description are worth acting on now. First, the full name on your booking must match your photo ID exactly, or you can be turned away and lose the fee; check it the day you book. International candidates

The Pearson VUE network is worldwide, which is exactly why the TMUA works for international applicants: you sit the same on-screen test, in the same window, at a centre in your own country or region, for the £133 international fee. The booking flow is identical, through your UAT-UK account, and your score reaches universities the same way.

Two extra checks matter when your centre is abroad. Confirm the centre's location and your travel plan carefully, since big cities may have several centres and options thin out elsewhere, and mind the time zone when reading your booking confirmation. Access arrangements

If you normally get adjustments in exams, extra time, rest breaks, modified materials, the same support exists for the TMUA, but it must be applied for through UAT-UK and it runs on an earlier clock than booking. For the October 2026 sitting, access arrangements need to be sorted by 14 September 2026, two weeks before the booking deadline, and ideally you handle them before you book at all, so your seat is set up correctly from the start.

Start the conversation with your school or exams officer early, since the evidence usually comes from them. Do not book first and hope to add arrangements later under deadline pressure; the arrangements govern how you sit the test, so settle them, then book.

If no nearby centre has slots

If you search and your nearest centre shows nothing, do not panic, and do not conclude you cannot sit the test. Work through this list:

1. Check every date in the window. You may be searching a single popular day. A slot on 13 or 16 October is worth exactly the same as one on 14 October.
2. Check morning and afternoon. Unpopular times outlast popular ones.
3. Widen the search. Look at the next town or city over. An hour of travel for a confirmed seat is a good trade against no seat at all, and you can travel the night before if needed.
4. Check again. Availability is live, so it is worth revisiting the booking search rather than treating one empty result as final.
5. Book earlier next time. For anyone reading this before booking opens in a future cycle: the wide-open choice exists on day one and shrinks from there. Book the week booking opens and the whole problem never arises.

What you should not do is wait passively near the 28 September deadline hoping something appears. A less convenient confirmed seat always beats a convenient hypothetical one, because there is no late entry of any kind.
